CPD for Lecturers atKnowsley College 2009with AK Automotive Motor vehicle lecturers and assessors at Knowsley Community College in Liverpool undertook a programme of one day technical courses with AK Automotive during the first half of 2009.
Courses were prepared and delivered on site exclusively for Knowsley College by AK Automotive. The programme enabled the lecturers to gain valuable hands on experience of current vehicle systems technologies and diagnostic procedures to pass on to their students.
In doing so, they also obtained evidence of their continuing professional development in line with recently introduced government legislation.
The courses comprised of a range of classroom sessions supported by practical activities on live road going vehicles.

The lecturers completed an oscilloscope diagnostics course in January, a CAN Bus course in April and petrol engine management diagnostics in June. During the courses, they gained valuable experience of working with various test tools and diagnostic equipment such as PicoScope and Fluke provided by AK Automotive.
The college also has several diagnostic scan tools and various other essential items of test equipment as well a a spacious, well laid out and equipped workshop.
Colin McGuiness, section manager for the motor vehicle department at Knowsley College said: “The technical training provided by AK Training has been really well received by the Motor Vehicle teaching and assessing team at Knowsley Community College, as it has provided the opportunity for staff to up-date their knowledge and understanding of modern vehicle systems and diagnostic techniques. We all enjoyed the detailed and informative theory session followed by interesting practical activities, which allowed the staff to investigate some of the concepts discussed earlier in the classroom session. The course end tests also provided an opportunity for tutors to recognise and appreciate how our learners feel when being tested at the end of an active day’s learning. All staff are now looking forward to the next training event - Petrol Engine Management, scheduled for 26th June 09”.
