Electrical Principles and
Circuit Testing Techniques
This is a two day practical vehicle electrics course. It is aimed at technicians working in the motor industry and those with relevant technical background who would like to gain the essential knowledge and skills required for carrying out testing and diagnosis of modern vehicle electrical systems. The course covers the followinig main subjects:
- Review of electrical principles
- Digital multi meter functions and
accessories
- Practical circuit testing techniques
- ISO relays and electronic relays
- Wiring diagrams anjd workshop
information systems
- Batteries, charging and starting systems
diagnosis
- Fault finding routines
- Course assessment
Experienced technicians would benefit from attending this course as a useful refresher.
During the course, delegates carry out a range of practical tasks on live vehicles using state of the art tools and test equipment from Fluke, Midtronics, CTEK and PC based workshop information system CD3 from Autodata. The course also show cases the automotive oscilloscope kit from Pico Technology.

Pre requisites
Those attending this course should either be working in the motor industry or have a relevant technical background and prior awareness of electrical theory. Basic PC skills would also be useful.
Course assessment
Course assessment comprises of multiple choice quetionnaires and a practical task. To successfully complete the course, delegates must achieve 80% in each assessment as well as an overall test result of 80% at the end of the course. After successfully completing the course, delegates will receive a Quality Assured Award certificate from IMI Awards Ltd.
