About AK Training

AK Training was established in 1999 and is the trading name of independent training consultant Tony Kitchen. Tony is an apprentice trained and qualified vehicle technician with over twenty years hands on technical experience in both the light and heavy sectors of the motor industry. He has a proven track record as an MOT tester and multi award winning ex Saab master technician.

Since establishing AK Training, Tony has delivered technical training across a variety of different vehicle brands and teaching environments both in the UK and overseas. He currently provides technical training services for a range of clients which include fire and rescue sevices, motor manufacturers, overseas governments and leading tools and equipment manufacturers and suppliers in the UK as well as offering independent courses. His training experience extends to the heavy sector of the motor industry. He has taught motor vehicle students studying towards NVQ at a technical college and also carried out workplace assessments as a D32, D33 assessor.

AK Training is accredited with the status of Approved Assessment Centre by the Institute of the Motor Industry and also the Institute of Road Transport Engineers. A program of technical courses is available from AK Training under the IMI Quality Assured Awards scheme and the IRTEC technician licensing programme.

Technical profile of Tony Kitchen:

• YTS trainee from 1984 until 1985 working on heavy goods vehicles.
• Four year apprenticeship served from 1985 until 1989 at franchised Saab dealership, River Garage, in Milton Keynes.
• MOT tester from 1993 until 1999.
• Saab master technician from 1996 until 1999.
• Attended evening college in 1997, and from 1999 until 2001 to obtain teaching qualifications
• Independent automotive industry technical training instructor from 1999 to present.

  Further technical achievements include:

• 1997: received award for Saab master technician of the year.
• 1998: second place in UK Saab network master technician championship competition.
